Explore the CuLinary Arts with HSWC

Beginning in School Year 2023-2024, High School of World Cultures has a New York State accredited CTE Culinary Arts program.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs provide academic and technical instruction alongside work-based learning experiences to high school students in public school systems. CTE programs exit across the country in public schools, and NYC has one of the largest portfolios in America, with nearly 300 CTE programs across 130 schools and over 65,000 participating students. CTE students take industry-specific courses, work-based learning opportunities and certifications in order to be better prepared for their next steps after high school.

What We Offer

Job Experience and job shadowing

Work-Based-Learning (WBL) hours are a mandated and critical component of our CTE program. During these hours, students are placed in real kitchens that have partnered with our community, providing our students first hand experience working in culinary settings.

+1 Graduation Pathway

A CTE Culinary Arts +1 Pathway is a high school program combining Career & Technical Education (CTE) in Culinary Arts with an additional focus (the "+1") like Hospitality, Business, or Management, offering hands-on skills in cooking, food safety, and service, leading to certifications (like ServSafe), college credits, and career readiness in the food industry, often including work-based learning or internships. This structure allows students to earn industry credentials and potentially college credit while completing high school, preparing them for jobs as chefs, managers, or further culinary education.

“when I got out of school many of my friends didn’t know what to do next. I already had a job and experience working in a kitchen. THIs helped me to support my family and pay for college. I’m forever grateful that I was enrolled in World Culture’s CTE program.
